IOST 2010 was a massive success for Marlay Softball Club. Our first team, Marlay Martyrs 1, reached the final unbeaten via a semi final win against Premier Division rivals, Oddsox Green.
Unfortunately the final proved one game too many for the team as injuries took their toll and the Stingers, plating a couple of runs each inning from the start, retained the trophy with a 17-7 win. The IOST gave Marc, Darren, Ebby, Declan and Kelly a first chance to take the field for the first string at a tournament and each contributed hugely to the success.
Meanwhile Marlay Martyrs 2 also progressed to the cup competition, reaching the quarter finals with a 4-3 record. Munster were there waiting for them and took an early lead. Marlay stormed back to tie the game, but a late rally saw Munster through to the semis.
Our third team this year was a combined Marlay - Mockingbirds side, who qualified for the plate following a walkover against the Kegs and a tied game against the Flinstones (Flyers-Greystones). The team were eventually undone by the Renegades in the quarter finals, a team who went on to finish 2nd in the plate to the Slox (Sluggers-Oddsox Black).
