A spectacular result last night and we are now 2-0 through one of the toughest parts of our schedule. Two away games against two of the better teams in our division last year and we have come away with the perfect platform to build a successful season upon.
Last week’s game saw us beat the Flyers 34-18 despite a very rocky 1st inning which saw our pitching put us in a bit of a hole by walking three of the first 8 batters to come to the plate and them capitalising on some basic errors on our part. Luckily we had put up 6 runs in the top of the inning and the best they could do was match us and so we started afresh was the top of the 2nd. The game was pretty much neck and neck for the next couple of innings until we managed to click from the top of the 5th. We entered the 5th with a slender 16-15 advantage but put then put on a base hitting clinic in the inning with seven singles, a couple of doubles and a few Flyer errors allowing us to score 8 runs. The top of the 6th was then the doubles show as Shay, Andy and Clay lead off with back to back to back doubles followed by a string of singles to expand the lead. Once again we put up a big fat zero in the bottom of the inning to really break the spirit of the Flyers, Bernie capped off the scoring in the 7th with a three run bomb to centre field and it was 34-15 to Marlay by the time the Flyers came up to bat in the bottom of the last. We have still yet to be behind at any stage in either of our games, we managed to consistently put up runs when needed most and base hit the Flyers to death. 27 singles will kill any team. Highlights of the game were Bernard’s three run exclamation point in the last and Jeanette and Andy’s slick 4-6-3 double play. MVP's for the day were Andy Haydu for going 4/6 with a flawless defensive game and Kim Kelley for her own 4/6 and strong play in left. Line Up - Marc O’Fathaigh (C)
