Top of 7 Heartbreak for Martyrs

Marlay Martyrs concede 3 runs in top of 7 to lose 12 - 10 to Dodder

Dodder Dynamoes reminded everybody why they are reigning European Champions with a win in week 11 of the Premier Division. Marlay dominated the game for 6.5 innings but Dodder took advantage of 6 errors in the top of 7 to take the lead and closed out the game in bottom of 7.

Things could have been so different with Marlay finding their bats and recording 14 hits in the first 4 innings as they built up a lead. The two previous meetings between the teams this season had seen Marlay win 4-1 and Dodder win 4-2 and there was no doubt that defence was the key to both teams chances.

All was going to plan until the Top of 7, Marlay had survived the wobbles and held a one run lead going into the inning... then things got a little ugly... with Dodder firts tieing the game and then taking the lead with 3 unearned runs.

Bottom of 7 saw Marlay get the tieing run to the plate on two occasions but it was not to be as Dodder in their last game before the European Cup closed out for the win.

This will be a game that will hurt the Marlay squad for a while especially conisdering the number of runners left on base and with a week of next week they are not in a position to get back on the horse until they welcome Blazzers to Marlay in Week 12.

Martyrs remain fourth on Head to Head versus Renegades and will need 3 wins to make sure that a top 4 finish remains in their grasp.
