Match Report For the second year running Dodder put Marlay out of the cup in a game that Marlay could have won. On a miserable night is South Dublin, Marlay played the reigning European Champions for the second time in 3 weeks. Having come out the winners in a tight league game, Marlay arrived in a confident mood which was helped early on by a leadoff double and run scored by Conor. Dodder struck back immediately with a lead of Home Run by Ken McCarthy and Marlay fought hard to get out of bases loaded at bottom of 1 with no damage. The second inning saw the girls do the work as both Jen & Maree, who both had multi hit games, had singles only for the men to fail moving them around. 2-1 down going into top of 3 with Melanie on 1, Colum worked a 2 out walk to load the bases but unfortunately Marlay could not score any runs on the next hit. Dodder added a run in the fourth and fifth whilst holding Marlay scoreless and as Marlay entered the seventh looking for 3 runs to tie the game they managed to get the tieing run to the plate but once more the Achilles heal of Marlay, hitting, kicked in and Marlay could only add one run to their total. The only good thing to be taken from the night was Jen & Maree’s 2 for 3 batting and the fact we do not have to go to Tymon park this season again. This brought an end to last years beaten semi-finalist Marlay’s cup run and all focus will now be on the league with a home game against Premier League new boys Castleknock Bearcats. |
