Blazzers V Marlay Martyrs |
| Final Score 25 - 23 |
Match Report
Marlay’s controversial week 1 league game was finally brought to a conclusion as the Martyrs had two scoreless innings to bring game 1 of the season to an end.
The week 1 game was called in the sixth inning for safety as light disappeared on the night with both captains agreeing to play the game to a conclusion at a later date. Both clubs received much criticism for this decision as ASA rules would indicate the win should have been awarded to Blazzers who led at the bottom of 5.
The original fixture had been a ding dong battle with Marlay taking advantage of the Blazzers being short a player in top of 1 to take a commanding lead. Resorted to full strength and through solid hitting the Blazzers hit back scoring 25 runs between innings three, four and five to take a 25-23 lead into top of 6.
Marlay had started responding in the top of 6 when the game was called and when the game resumed from the start of the top of 6 again Marlay went 3 up 3 down and only one hit in the top of 7.
This game was not lost in the top of 6 or 7 and all credit goes to Blazzers for their comeback in week 1 when they dug deep and hit well.
