Marlay Martyrs defeated Oddsox Green 8-7 an extra innings Quarter Final tie last night in Bird Avenue.

The Sox were the first to get on the board with two runs in the bottom of the first thanks to a string of two out hits from the heart of their order. The Martyrs failed to get a hit until the top of the fourth and only managed two base runners to that point thanks to a couple of infield errors. Fortunately we managed to hold the home side to the rather baseball-esqe score of 2-0 going into the 5th.

The Marlay bats finally exploded for 6 runs as we batted through the order in the top of the 5th and we held them in the bottom. We failed to score in the 6th but managed to reply to a Sox run with a run in the 7th for a 7-3 lead going into the bottom. A couple of big hits from the top of the Green order drew the game level and sent us into extras.

Marlay took a one run lead in the top of the 8th with Dave scoring on a single from Sinead. A risky base running call and a bit of bad luck held us back from extending the lead. We picked up a couple of quick outs in the bottom of the 8th with Sal and Muireann lining out, before Paul hit a double to put himself into scoring position. Former Martyrs Alun then popped up to end the game.
