Marlay Name Squad for Series One of Munster League

Marlay have named their squad for the first series of the Munster league with a mix of players from throughout the club

 

Marlay Softball Club travels to Cork this Saturday to play its inaugral series in the Munster league. An early start will see the Dublin based team travel to Cork City for a 12 Noon game 1 of the double header.

Marlay have named a relatively strong team which includes players from all three teams across the club. The squad includes current Munster squad member Kelly Glander as well as Colum Lavery who represented Ireland at the recent European Championships in Prague.

"The aim of these games is to provide game time and experience in different positions to our players whilst experiencing the challenges of playing against unfamiliar players" says Marlay Munster League captain Darren Hanlon. Darren added " . . . a win would be great, but our focus is having our players sharp for the last four weeks of the Leinster season then we can turn all our energies to challenging for the Munster League."

Marlay Softball Club entering the 2010 Munster League as a show of support to the new league and is a continuation of the close links between Marlay and the Munster clubs.

"Marlay Softball Club see's the growth of the Muster League as an important cog in the development of Softball in Ireland", says Club General Manager Dave Burke. "Marlay are delighted to continue our close relationship with the clubs of Munster which reaches as far back as the intervarsities and the MIST tournaments".

Marlay will play Cork on August 7, 2010 and the squad is as follows:

Darren Hanlon, Colum Lavery, Dave Burke, Andy Haydu, Ciaran Columb, Austin Purton, Declan Burke, Kelly Glander, Rachel Dalton, Fiona Lehane, Sinead Burke, Shannon Ryan.
