GB Retains Euros Title, as Ireland Finish 3rd

GB retained the European co-ed slowpitch championship yesterday, their seventh win overall.  GB defeated the Czech Republic in the final with the Irish finishing in 3rd place and Guernsey in 4th.

Ireland started the day well with a 11-2 win over Guernsey, while GB defeated the Czechs 10-3 to go straight into the Grand Final.  Ireland then face the Czechs to determine the opposition for GB.  Unfortunately some great defence from the Czech ensured the Irish left a lot of runners on base and resulted in an 8-4 win for the Czechs and 3rd place for Ireland.

The Czechs went on to be beaten 19-4 by GB in the Grand Final, despite a good start giving the Czechs a 3-0 lead.  GB came back strong though with some HR power, ending the game in the bottom of the 6th on the mercy rule when Steve Hazard hit a three run homer.
