Braves Earn Clutch Win Over Deadlys

A thrilling game last night, with the Braves starting the bottom of the seventh 6 runs down, only to win the game by two!

The Braves had a shaky start, shipping 8 runs in the first inning, and scoring only 2.  Things gradually improved however, and good defensive play held the Suspects to three low scoring innings, allowing Braves to start to catch up.  Another damaging inning from the suspects in the fifth, after a couple of defensive errors, stretched their lead again, forcing the Braves to run hard and steal a couple of cheeky runs.  With the score standing at 14 – 20 in the bottom of the seventh, it looked as if the Braves would lose – but intelligent batting saw us grab 8 runs to win the game in a tense and thrilling finish.

This win was largely down to Braves' batters forcing their pitcher to throw good pitches - and resisting the temptation to swing at balls just for the sake of it.  With 2 outs in a couple of innings, male batters took walks - to allow their female counterparts to reach first without having to swing a bat.  This intelligent batting is still something we need to work on - but it sure paid off last night!
